Business Owners Forums have been running monthly since June 2009 – with topics chosen by popular choice. Last time we canvassed for topic suggestions was back in June, and we have now exhausted those which were put forward. So the time has now come to ask for a fresh batch of topic suggestions so we can go about assembling panels for the rest of the year.
Just to provide a bit of inspiration, here are the topics we have presented so far in Whangarei and Auckland.
Property Development
Managing Cashflow
Protecting Shareholder Current Accounts
Employment Issues
The Art of Networking
Monitoring your Business Performance
So if you have any thoughts on topics which you would like to see discussed over the remainder of this year, just add them in the comments box below. The only criteria is that the topic is relevant to the group – owners of businesses turning over $1 million or more per year.
And if you have any suggestions for panelists, we’d like to hear those too!

Topic Suggestion:
It is always a challenge to know when to advertise, and most importantly how much to spend. We would be interested in attending a presentation that examines the different media available, some expert comment on what works and what doesn’t, how to measure advertising success or failure, and how much to spend relative to cashflow.
Thank you for the invite i would have been interested in the last seminar except we had a clash on dates.
i looked at blog and felt if you have another one around this subject we would be interested.
kind regards,

Here’s my suggestion:
I’d be very interested in a Business Owners Forum session exploring techniques to motivate and reward my staff, and in particular ways to tie performance to remuneration.
Thank you for hosting these forums, great effort guys.

Sorry I missed the sessions on networking and using social media, I’ll be keen to attend a repeat on that topic if it come up.
Hi team, I really enjoy the Business Owners Forum. Great concept, and well executed. I’d like to see a panel discussion on some of the issues and fish-hooks in admitting new shareholders to a business as a way to bring in new blood and pave the way towards succession.
One of my projects for 2010 is to move further towards a winning culture and attitude in my business as I believe this is the real source of competitive advantage in my industry. A panel discussion on this topic woudl be of great interest to me. Thank you for these Business Owners Forums, much appreciated.
Hi Fraser,
I passed on an idea to Michael Masterson on the evening about how to value a business, such as preparing it for sale, or a business you want to buy etc.
A discussion on topics such as valuing goodwill, assets and maybe even as complicated as ebitda multiples and such where appropriate.
I’m sure you could add some war stories along the lines of when someone has got the value a bit wrong and therefore the benefits of doing a thorough due diligence.
What do ya reckon?

Hi Fraser
A possible topic: Staff Training / Personal – Professional Development – both ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ systems / frameworks.
